New Zealand Nationwide Lockdown.

Hi everyone

As you know New Zealand has gone into a nationwide lockdown because of Covid-19. All schools and other non-essential businesses have closed for the foreseeable future. So our students are doing their learning online.

Our School holidays have been brought forward 2 weeks so we are now heading into those. We will be back blogging when school heads back and things are a little more normal.

We hope you are all safe during this time, take care of yourselves, family and friends.

Our Tiki Tour Around Whanganui

When we were up at the lake we went into the winter gardens and looked at all the sculptures that were in there. There were lots outside in the courtyard part made of all different things like wood, metal, concrete and wire. Finally, some of us went to see the Peter Pan sculpture and some went to the children playing leapfrog - we had our own game of leapfrog in front of the sculpture. 

On Thursday all of Room 3 went for a tiki tour around Wanganui to see all the sculptures we could find as we have been learning about sculptures and George Segal a sculptor. We went to Moutoa Gardens and looked at the memorials that had sculptures of people on top of them and made rubbings of the plagues. 

From there we went in a convoy to explore the sculptures along the riverside and in Kowhai park, we talked about how some sculptures have functions like water fountains. We saw the pencils sculptures and the waterfall one along the riverside and then headed up to Virginia Lake. 

             

All of us had a lot of fun and it was a very busy morning; We are looking forward to doing our George Segal sculptures with plaster. Stay tuned to see these in the near future. 

Maths - Number Knowledge - Maths

We have been working hard on improving our Number Knowledge, this week we were concentrating on Place Value and how many tens are in numbers we know. Some groups are doing numbers up to 1000. 

We worked out some things that we needed to know and practised using the place value blocks to show how many tens were in each number Mrs Wilton-Scott wrote down. We wrote our answers inro our books to record our learning. We also took photos of our work too.

Some of the groups are working on numbers up to 10,000 and we had some things that needed to sort through too and practice this next. 

Tutuki and Their Buddy Class

Thursday afternoon was warm and with myself and another reliever in the school, we planned to get two classes together and participate in a scavenger hunt. 

Each group was made up of two Room 3 buddies and either one or two Room 9 buddies. Each group had an iPad and need to take a picture of each of the subjects and return to the classroom and show the teacher, making sure all of their group members were together. 

Everyone in the group needed to have a turn at taking the pictures and being the leader to show that we are all able to show leadership, cooperation and teamwork skills. Everyone enjoyed the scavenger hunt and Mrs Wilton-Scott and Miss Ravindran came up with some really strange things for us to take pictures of.
